Work & Responsibilities:
- Coordinating the work of office as Head of the Post
- To establish contacts, liaise with various Government Departments, trade associations, Chambers of Commerce, trade marts, department stores and importers' associations for promoting India's export capabilities and encouraging sourcing from India
- Sponsoring buying delegations/buyers to visit various trade fairs and exhibitions and facilitating business meetings with prospective exporters
- To assess effectiveness and fruitfulness of various trade fairs and exhibitions organized in thereof operation of New York Office (USA, Canada and Mexico) and organizing India's participation in select events suiting to country's requirement
- Assisting visiting exporters for establishing suitable business contacts

5. Planning Officer- Bank of Baroda, Eastern Zonal Office, Calcutta - May 10, 1984 to February 25, 1987
Acted as Manager (Planning) and coordinated the work of Planning Department of Eastern Zonal Office for more than a year in the absence of Development Manager (Planning)
Duties performed in the Planning Department are given below:
- Formulation of zonal policy guidelines having bearing on corporate objectives as laid down by the Chairman & Managing Director, business policy guidelines and environmental analysis of the Zone
- Planning and performance budgeting of Eastern Zone including the preparation of long range plan
- Managing MIS and Data Bank of the Zone
- Monitoring regionwise/areawise/zonewise perfor mance of the zone vis-à-vis targeted levels and provide guidelines to the regions for taking corrective measures periodically
- Providing guidelines to the branches for business growth such as deposit mobilization, credit deployment, improving non-fund based business and apprise them about the various development programs undertaken in different States/Regions
- Conducting specific studies like regionwise/bankwise/ statewise business performance/profitability/study of loss-making branches and preparing papers for Zonal Committee meetings for providing guidelines to regions/branches for taking corrective measures
- Coordinating Zonal Committee meetings and assisting in monitoring the decisions of the meeting
- Coordinating with Regional Training Center for conducting training programs for offficers/managers on performance budgeting
The observations made by the Inspection Team on the functioning of the Planning Department are given below:
"There has been qualitative improvement in the working of the Department since last Inspection as on March 2, 1992. The studies made by the Planning Department seems to have helped the Operational Wing of the Zone/Region in identifying the performance vis-à-vis projections in different sectors of the banking activity. The contribution made by Dr. Shyam S. Agrawal, the Specialist Officer attached to this Department in bringing out the changes is worth mentioning."
6. Lecturer in Economics - 1973 to 1984 -
In addition to teaching Economics, following activities were undertaken:
- Worked as President/Professor In-Charge of Planning Forum/Economic Associations in colleges and organized several extra curricular activities such as inter-college debates, paper reading contest, proficiency tests and conducting surveys of surrounding areas, etc.
- Was approved Lesson Script Writer for Correspondence Courses of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra
- Was associated with University Leadership Programs of UGC and had also written a few lessons for a book for college students written under the program
- Attended Summer Institute in Economics and other Workshops in the field of education organized at Kurukshetra University
- While working as a Lecturer, I remained deeply involved in research activities. Doctorate Degree was completed during this period and some research papers were also published.
